Woman, 60, charged with assault for throwing coffee at police officer's face


CROOKSTON, Minn. -- A 60-year-old Crookston woman faces felony charges after allegedly throwing a cup of coffee on a city police officer who was attempting to assist her at a mental health hospital.

Joan Marie Helsene-Sydow has been charged with fourth-degree assault of a peace officer, a felony, and disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, in Polk County District Court.

According to the criminal complaint, police officer Donald Rasicot was called to Northwestern Mental Health Center at about 12:25 p.m. Monday on reports of a client who was out of control and being placed on a 72-hour mental health hold.
