Judge locks up 4 more principals for robbing kids: 'It was their money'

Dressed in all black, former Detroit principal Gerlma Johnson sobbed in a federal courtroom this morning, struggling to accept her punishment for taking bribes from a vendor as a reward for approving his fake invoices: a 12-month prison sentence.

Johnson, like many other principals accused of the same crime, had argued she spent most of her kickbacks on the kids.

But U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts didn't buy it, noting there were more than $10,000 in travel receipts for expenses she incurred while traveling to teacher conferences without district approval, including one trip to Beijing.
