Evicted Yakama tribal members plan to voice concerns at gathering

Several Yakama tribal members evicted from housing projects earlier this summer will gather today to discuss their options and voice their concerns.

Evictions began in tribal housing projects in June, and more than 270 tribal members were displaced as a result. Many of them, some 130, are living in tents at the tribe's RV park, where they are allowed to use restrooms, showers and laundry facilities, and the tribe is providing meals.

Yakama Nation Housing Authority officials say the evictions were warranted because of chronic violations to lease agreements, and that tenants were given plenty of notice to comply with lease terms.
