Tribal leaders still looking for changes at IHS

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) Indian Health Service officials were in Rapid City this week for meetings with tribal leaders on critical Indian Country health issues.

IHS has been under mounting scrutiny in recent months. The board that oversees Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements slammed a number of South Dakota IHS facilities calling them sub-standard.

Congressional leaders have introduced legislation to boost oversight of the agency. IHS officials say they are working on improvements but tribal leaders say service remains poor.
