School leaders eye improving Native graduation rates

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) As the school year begins, a key focal point for educators in the Rapid City Area School District is raising Native American graduation rates that lag behind districtwide rates.

In 2015, 41 percent of Rapid City Native seniors graduated. The 2016 numbers aren't public yet but the school board has made boosting Indian graduation rates a priority.

For new school superintendent Dr. Lori Simon that means stressing partnerships -- and attendance.
