Bishop Paiute Tribe urges patience after officer involved shooting

A man was wounded after being shot by a police officer on the Bishop Paiute Reservation in California.

According to the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, an officer responded to an incident of domestic violence early Friday morning when Raymond Bencoma III, 41, displayed a handgun. He was shot and transported to a hospital for treatment.

"We strongly encourage the tribal community to be patient while the investigation continues," Chairman Deston Rogers said in a statement on Friday. "We ask for prayers for all involved. The safety of the entire community is of upmost concern and the council does have a heavy heart that this incident has transpired."
