Beginning at 7 P.M.

On August 23rd, 2016, Heaven gained another Angel "Hopa". It broke our hearts to see her suffer but we are assured knowing we will be together again someday.

Annette Denise Crawford, "Cante Wastewin", age 48 daughter of Samuel V. Crawford Sr. and Alberta L. (DeCoteau) Crawford, born on January 2, 1968. She was the Sisseton's 1968 New Year's baby.

Hopa was baptized at Goodwill Presbyterian Church by The Reverend Howard Orcutt and later became a member and an elder.

She started her education at Big Coulee Headstart, then at Peever Elementary School, Brockton Elementary, Culbertson Elementary continuing on in Sisseton, South Dakota. She attended the Sisseton-Wahpeton Community College.

She worked for the Agency bingo and casino.

Hopa was a foster parent for several years, always opening her home for whoever was in need.

She became an elder of Goodwill Presbyterian Church and serving as moderator for Dakota Presbytery and other offices.

Hopa was blessed to raise two children a nephew Theo and a niece Samantha, which she took in as her own. She became a grandma to two granddaughters TyAnne & Tyleeya Bobtail Bear who were her pride and joy.

She was a friend to many. Her sense of humor will be missed, her faith in God she shared with many through prayers and songs.

Hopa enjoyed cooking, her famous fry bread, Sioux dogs, always willing to help with whatever she could. She loved our Dakota culture and she traveled to many Wacipi's, helped her brothers who sang, always encouraged her nephews, nieces and grandchildren to dance and sing.

Our dear daughter, mother, sister, grandma and aunty will be immensely missed. We know our Dad was there to lead her home. She asked us to let her go now, we stood by her bedside vigilantly and begged her not to go. She said I'm tired now, no more. With broken hearts and spirits we honored her request as we held her one last time and said its Gods will, go be with our loved ones. She left this world and started her journey.

She leaves behind her son: Theo Bobtail Bear; a daughter: Samantha Crawford; her mother: Alberta Crawford; sisters: Peny & Lynette "Nona" Bobtail Bear and Danette "Nettie" Kirk; brothers: Sam Crawford Jr. and Floyd "Leon" Crawford Sr.; nieces: Thea Bobtail Bear, Shay Crawford and Marley Mae Crawford; nephews: ViJay Crawford, Morley Kirk, Aydean Kirk, Samuel Crawford; also survived by her Hunka, her parents Clark & Pauline Zephier, Simon & Lavonne Looking Elk, Leonard Crowbelt, Hunka brothers: Bill & Rhea Canku, Morris Canku, Ron Redday, Kenny Seaboy Jr. and Terry Looking Elk; Hunka sisters: Mush Wells, Sheryl Looking Elk, Sheila Looking Elk, Lisa Hatten, Vonda Bighorn, Jodean Hansen, Stefanie Crawford and Davana Seaboy; other relatives and many friends.
