BEMIDJI — Teams in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association men’s league will no longer settle for ties.
The league announced Tuesday a dramatic overhaul to the on-ice game structure for the 2016-17 season, the most significant of which is the elimination of ties in the league standings and the addition of 3-on-3 overtime and shootouts.
Under the previous format, WCHA league games would feature a single five-minute period of 5-on-5 overtime and if there was no winner, each team would receive a point in the standings.
