NATIONAL BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS MONTH

Walk & Picnic

On Saturday, August 27th, Breastfeeding in Bemidji will host their 3rd annual Awareness month walk and picnic. The event will begin at Big River Scoop @1:00pm. The group will walk through downtown and up the lake walk to Diamond Point Park Main Building. There will be refreshments provided by local businesses in support of breastfeeding mothers as well as door prizes, information tables and an opportunity for whole family fun.

The event runs from 1:00pm – 5:00pm, if you are unable to walk with us, feel free to come straight to the park at 2:00pm and join us for snacks, prizes and community building to support nursing mothers feeding their babies ‘wherever, whenever however’ (This years national theme).

This event is free and open to everyone! We would love to see you there in support! There will be free T-shirts for the first 100 participants!

National Breastfeeding Awareness Month encompasses World Breastfeeding Week and includes events like The Big Latch On and numerous local events throughout the country and the world. This event is a chance to show support for the mothers in our community doing what they do best, feeding and caring for our next generation in the best way they can. “We encourage mothers to breastfeed for as long as it works for them and their baby, it isn’t always easy or simple and many mothers overcome huge obstacles to create a healthy nursing relationship with their child.” –Arianne Pyke, Co-Founder, Breastfeeding in Bemidji.

About Breastfeeding In Bemidji

We began a little over three and a half years ago when Mary Auger, a retired lactation consultant and La Leche League Leader, agreed to host a group of women looking for support and advice. Arianne Pyke approached Mary about the lack of this type of group in town and we currently host bi-weekly meetings, a Facebook group of about 250 people and are attempting to reach a wider community each year with our August event. Contact Arianne Pyke with questions about the event or joining the group@ (612) 991-8596 or request to join us on Facebook.
