Detour removed from Highway 46 between Northome and Deer River

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists in Itasca County can once again travel Highway 46 between Northome and Deer River as the detour has been lifted.

Gladen Construction Inc. was the contractor for the $852,000 project which replaced the culvert at the Popple River. The improvements will ensure a smoother and longer lasting roadway with better drainage for motorists in the region.

Because of the rivers and lakes in the area, the detour added 30 miles to the route. To lessen the impact of the detour, construction staff worked with an accelerated the project timeline. Traffic had been detoured since July 11.
