'We're scared it's open season on us': A family mourns the loss of a 22-year-old shot to death on a Sask. farm

RED PHEASANT CREE NATION — Colten Boushie and his four friends were trying to get help for a flat tire when the 22-year-old was fatally shot in a farmyard earlier this week, says a witness.

“The guy came out of nowhere,” said 21-year-old Eric Meechance, who was sitting in the vehicle’s back seat with his girlfriend.

Meechance said he and his friends were unarmed and neither attacked nor threatened the man. Gerald Stanley, 54, is charged with second-degree murder and appeared in North Battleford provincial court on Thursday.
