Kansas graduation rate too low, education commissioner says

Kansas must work with students and families to improve high school graduation rates, education commissioner Randy Watson said Tuesday, while highlighting challenges the state faces, including high turnover among superintendents and principals.

Eighty-six percent of Kansas high-schoolers finish high school on time. Fewer than 1 percent more finish high school within five years instead of four.

“Eight-six isn’t good enough,” Watson told the Kansas State Board of Education.
