Baltimore County Board of Education passes heat closure policy

Baltimore County's superintendent of schools now has a clear directive for when to close non-air conditioned schools — it's when the heat index reaches 90 degrees.

The Baltimore County Public Schools Board of Education passed a policy Tuesday directing the superintendent to close non-airconditioned schools if the heat index is forecast to reach 90 degrees by 11 a.m. When possible, the closure should be announced by 8 p.m. the preceding night.

If the heat index is forecast to reach 90 degrees by 2 p.m., the superintendent is directed under the new policy to dismiss non-air conditioned schools two hours early.
