Another tax levy increase likely in 2017

BEMIDJI -- It's time to crunch the numbers for Beltrami County officials as the 2017 budget season gets underway.

In the last week, county administration has had numerous meetings with all of the county departments, according to the budget calendar. Beltrami County administrator Kay Mack said the next step in the process is to now compile the data into a budget proposal by Sept. 6, where it will be submitted to the Board of Commissioners.

As the county prepares for its budget preparation, Mack said a key topic will be the 2017 tax levy, a figure that has yet to be calculated. In 2016, the tax levy was $20,137,494, an increase of 6.96 percent over the year before.
