Former Yakama higher-education manager sentenced in scholarship theft case

YAKIMA, Wash. — A former manager of the Yakama Nation’s Higher Education Program was sentenced in federal court to five years of probation for his role in the theft of $179,000 in scholarship money.

Delford Neaman, 66, was also ordered to serve six months in home detention during a sentencing hearing Wednesday before U.S. District Court Judge Stanley Bastian in Yakima.

Neaman earlier pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal from a tribal organization, and prosecutors agreed not to seek more than 5 years probation. Neaman was one of 15 people indicted in 2015.
