Tribe to bring water, pipeline concerns to D.C.

KEOKUK – About 40 people of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe wearily climbed the Southside Boat Club’s sloping parking lot Tuesday morning in Keokuk.

Runners were tired, hungry and looking forward to a breakfast donated and prepared by area supporters such as the Thunderbird Society and Standing Bear Council of Keokuk.

They’d spent the night at the Hoerner YMCA after completing the most recent leg of their run from South Dakota to Washington, D.C., where they have an appointment on Aug. 5 at the Pentagon and hopefully, the White House.
