State swaps out high school standardized test

The state assessment test 11th graders take is going to be traded out for either the ACT or the SAT, that way students can use the results for college applications. Right now, highschoolers in Nebraska have to take a state accountability test in 11th grade, but a bill that passed this last legislative session is going to replace that with a college entrance exam like the ACT or the SAT.

"The logic really is that you want to implement a standardized test that not only give you the information you need to make some accountability decisions, but if possible also directly benefits students," Lincoln Public Schools Assessment Director Leslie Eastman said.

The current state test covers reading, math, science, and writing, but you can't submit it on a college application. Using the ACT or SAT kills two birds with one stone, and LPS says it's more convenient for kids.
