Barrett, Pemberton, Smith and Martin win District Representative seats

Run Off Election held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016

RED LAKE INDIAN RESERVATION - Members of the Red Lake Nation went to the polls on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, for the purpose of electing four District Representatives for a four-year term from the Ponemah, Redby, Red Lake and Little Rock Districts.

Run Off Elections for Red Lake's four districts unofficially declared Barrett, Pemberton, Smith and Martin as winners until such time as the election can be certified by the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians Election Board.

Unofficial results:

In the Redby District, incumbent Allen D. Pemberton defeated Darrell "Ragg" Johnson, 299 to 211.

Incumbent Robert "Bob" Smith defeated Donald L. Good, Sr. in the Red Lake District, 407 to 359.

In the Little Rock District, incumbent Richard W. Barrett, Sr. defeated William F. "Billy" Greene, 216 to 152.

Glenda J. Martin defeated Daniel C. Johnson in the Ponemah District, 231 to 203. There was no incumbent in the Ponemah Race because former Ponemah Representative Randell Kingbird was defeated in the May 2016 Elections.

Pursuant to Chapter 1807.06 of the Election Code, only a candidate, and no other person, may challenge the correctness of the certified results of an election in which that candidate ran for elected office and then only for the office that he or she sought. Challenges must be filed in writing under oath with the General Election Board within five calendar days following the certification of the election. The challenge must provide the necessary information required by the Election Code and be accompanied by a cash bond of five hundred dollars ($500.00).

All four should take office on the next regular tribal council meeting once the election is certified and there are no challenges.
