Election Day is today for 8 candidates running for 4 District Representative spots

RED LAKE - Eight candidates will square off for 4 District Representative seats on the Red Lake Tribal Council today. These 8 originally started off as 19 running for the offices. The top 2 candidates in each district are now in a run-off.

In Red Lake, incumbent Robert "Bob" Smith will face Donald L. Good, Sr .; Daniel C. Johnson will face Glenda J. Martin for the Ponemah Representative Seat; incumbent Allen D. Pemberton will face Darrell "Ragg" Johnson in Redby; and incumbent Richard W. Barrett, Sr. will face William F. "Billy" Green for the Little Rock Representative Seat.

To win the seat, a candidate who receives more than 50% of the vote will be declared the winner. If no candidate receives more than 50% in any and all races, a run-off election will be scheduled 60 days after all certifications, challenges or recounts. The candidate with the most votes in the run-off will be declared the winner.

Winners of the run-off election(s) will take office more than likely at the first Regular Tribal Council Meeting in September of this year.

Polls open at 8 AM - 8 PM.
