Position Description: Cook II - Two positions

Supervisor: Food Service Coordinator

Assignment: Red Lake Elementary Complex

Bargaining Group: Minnesota School Employees Association

Terms: Fulltime – 9 month employee

Position Overview: To direct and oversee the operation of the kitchen in the preparation of meals.

Major Position Duties:

1. Directs the activities of the cooks when preparing and serving meals, and assists staff in prepping meals when needed.

2. Assists cooks with serving of the meal times.

3. Ensures cleanup is performed after the meals, in compliance within federal and state guidelines.

4. Supervises food service employees in assigned building.

5. Orders the approved food items according to the menu through the primary vendor.

6. Insures that the menu is followed at all times using approved/provided recipes.

7. Prepares food for special events including salad bar for conferences.

8. Checks in, to verify the invoices accuracy and noting if the quality is acceptable, the food and supplies ordered and shipments of commodities.

9. Completes menu production records after each meal is served. Production record will be forwarded to the food service coordinator on a weekly basis on Monday of the following week.

10. Oversees the use and maintenance of kitchen and cafeteria equipment, insuring proper use of equipment.

11. Performs a complete inventory of all food products and frozen products on a monthly basis. Provides Food Service Coordinator with a copy of inventory.

12. Make sure kitchen is clean at all times.

13. Ensures all food safety measures per ServSafe guidelines are adhered to by all staff.

14. Attends educational workshops and classes.

15. Other duties as assigned by building Principal and/or supervisor.


1. High school diploma or GED.

2. State Food Service Manager Certification.

3. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, perform repetitive movements and bend.

4. Demonstrated supervision skills

5. Good communication skills, personal appearance and a cooperative attitude required.

6. Willingness to assist where needed and the ability to establish good working relationships is essential.

7. Good work attendance.
