WALKER, Minn. — Describing himself as humbled and honored, Faron Jackson Sr. began his four-year term Friday as chairman of Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.
"To be part of this council, it was really an amazing journey," Jackson said after taking the oath of office. "I want to remind everyone here, that this is not my council, this is your council. It works for the members, that's what I never want to forget."
Jackson's inauguration was held Friday at the Northern Lights Casino in Walker. In his speech, Jackson said the Leech Lake community needs to come together in facing issues while also holding on to teaching from family that have come before.
