Julius was born and raised most of his life in Red Lake. He did attend school in Flandreau, South Dakota for a short time. Julius worked at the Thief River Falls Seven Clans Casino as an inventory clerk and a cook. Which was the perfect job for him because he loved to cook and was very good at it.

Family welcoming Julius to the spirit world are his parents; George and Gladys Maxwell, brother; Marvin Black, sisters; Ida Blackcloud and Iris Desjarlait, grandparents; Phillip and Alice Fineday and Bertha and Baptiste Maxwell, other relatives, aunties, uncles and cousins.

Julius leaves behind his son; Julius Maxwell, Jr. of Warroad, brothers; Marlyn (Emmaline Roaneagle) Black, Sr. of Ponemah, George Maxwell, Jr. of Redby, Kordell Black of Bemidji and Kelly Maxwell of Arkansas, uncles; Phillip Fineday, Jr., Robert Fineday and John Maxwell, aunties; Betty King, June Maxwell, Melvina Maxwell, Ruby Bratvold, Debbie Cloud, Frieda Fineday and Annie Fineday, many other cousins and numerous friends.
