More New Mexico players expected at First Nations golf tournament

Last year, Larry Lujan had weeks to get ready to coordinate a golf tournament.

This year, he had 11 months to do the same thing.

When Amateur Athletics Union golf officials reached out to him in March 2015 to coordinate the First Nations National Golf Championships, Lujan scrambled to attract 23 youth golfers — all either Native American or of lineal descent — for the July tournament. With a little more time, Lujan hopes that he can grow the tournament in the second year.
