Colville plays host to world's largest supertanker
—the world’s largest airtanker.
Today, Global Supertanker Services will finish training flights of the 747 Supertanker over the Colville Indian Reservation near Keller Ridge and 21 Mile in the San Poil Valley.
The plane, used to fight wildfires from its base in Colorado Springs, has twice the capacity of the next largest aerial tanker, according to the company’s website.
In training plans, the company has reported the plane can drop nearly 20,000 gallon-loads, but water drops on the reservation will be ‘at a very light concentration level and [have] no negative impact on the environment or persons.’
