George W. Neilson Foundation provides Red Lake Nation College with grant

The Red Lake Nation College recently announced it received a George W. Neilson Foundation community development grant for $100,000. According to the Neilson Foundation, the grant will be paid to the Red Lake Nation College over two years with $50,000 paid in 2016 and $50,000 to be paid in 2017.

The Neilson Foundation's purpose is to provide community development grants to help Bemidji and the surrounding area. The Red Lake Nation College is the Tribal College chartered by the Red Lake Tribe to provide a high quality higher education option on the Red Lake reservation that is grounded in the language and culture of the Red Lake Nation, according to a release.

RLNC is partnering with BSU, Northwest Technical College and all of the Tribal Colleges in Minnesota to share courses and resources through a new technology bridge called "Aazhoogan" (Ojibwe translation for bridge). Through this new technology bridge, virtual presence BSU courses will be offered soon in Red Lake so that Red Lake students could take BSU courses at the Red Lake Nation College.
