Tribal leaders move to cut out IHS middleman

A group of Great Plains tribal leaders want to cut out a middleman in their health care delivery.

Leaders from nine area tribes voted at a Great Plains Tribal Chairmen's Health Board meeting last week for a proposal to defund a federal office that's been responsible for Native American health care in the region for decades.

Instead of sending money to the Indian Health Service (IHS) hub in Aberdeen, tribal officials want the money to go directly to tribes to run their own health care systems.
