Brian K. Smith, Sr., age 54, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.

Brian Keith Smith, the son of Myles and Janice (Smith) Morley, was born on September 19, 1961, in Detroit Lakes, MN. He spent most of his childhood in the Detroit Lakes area and attended school there. As a young man, Brian entered the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he started his own business in Fargo-Moorhead. He owned and operated Red Roofers Construction for many years. In 1985, Brian was united in marriage to Vickie Olson and he proudly became a father to her two daughters. Over the years, Brian was blessed with six more children.

Several years ago, Brian moved to Mahnomen to help care for his aging parents. This also allowed him to be closer to his children and precious grandchildren, who had become the light of his life. He was a huge Vikings fan week in and week out whether they won or lost he would still be there screaming at the TV. Brian enjoyed a trip to the casino, loved to laugh, and had a heart of gold. As he aged, he became a softer gentler man who truly treasured his family and friends.

Brian is survived by, his daughters: Angela (Gilbert Garza) Olson, Danelle Olson, Jamie (Shawn Guy) Garcia, Brianna Smith, Andrea (Jerome Neeland) Wilkens, Melissa (Carlos Lopez) Smith and Tiffany; his son, Brian (Fiancée, Rachael Harveland) Smith Jr.; his brothers: John (Myrna) Smith and Mike (Robin) Marley; his sisters: Cheryl (Daniel Stevens) Smith, Lisa Denenny and Annette Anderson; many grandchildren; his ex-wife, Vickie Smith; and the rest of his large extended family.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents, Myles and Janice; his sister, Lori Morley; his nephew, Josh Morley; brother-in-law, Micky Denenny and sister-in-law, Kristi Morley.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen. Visitation will be held at the White Earth Community Center in White Earth, MN, on Monday, June 13, 2016, beginning at 5:00 pm and continuing until 10:00 am on Tuesday. Interment will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Mahnomen.
