Hartford Schools Join Federal Program To Fight 'Chronic Absences'

HARTFORD — A federal initiative aimed at keeping kids in school is coming to Hartford, the White House announced Wednesday.

The capital city is included in the 20 communities chosen for the second cohort of the My Brother's Keeper Success Mentors Initiative, along with Cleveland, Dallas, Los Angeles and Baltimore, among others.

Success Mentors was launched by President Barack Obama in 10 major cities in February, an arm of the larger My Brother's Keeper network, which aims to "close the achievement gap" for minority children, according to the statement announcing its debut in Hartford.
