Tuition reduction and free-college program make NTC an affordable, accessible higher education option

Northwest Technical College will continue to offer affordable, high-quality educational options with a tuition reduction in place for fall and spaces remaining in a program that offers a free education to qualifying students.

Tuition Reduction

Thanks to action by the Minnesota Legislature in 2015, tuition will decline by one percent this fall. For full-time students at NTC, that will lead to a savings of approximately $51.60. The reduction will come on the heels of three consecutive years of stable tuition, meaning Fall 2016 tuition at NTC will be lower than the rates paid in 2012-13.

“Our state colleges and universities remain the lowest cost, highest value option in higher education in Minnesota,” said Steven Rosenstone, chancellor of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. “Affordability and accessibility ensure that our colleges and universities can be places of hope and opportunity for all Minnesotans.”

Two-Year Free College Program

In addition to the coming tuition reduction, NTC has opportunities remaining for new students to participate in a program allowing them to pursue their college educations tuition-free.

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Two-Year Occupational Grant Pilot Program provides financial assistance to students enrolled in qualifying career and technical programs at two-year colleges in Minnesota. The program will help students complete their program within two years or less and find employment in a high-demand occupation. The program was created by the 2015 Minnesota Legislature and will be available as a pilot program for the next two academic years.

The grant will cover actual tuition and general fee costs after federal Pell grants and Minnesota State grants have been applied. Other related costs, such as books, equipment, room and board, or fees for specific courses, are not eligible for the grant. Students must meet qualification guidelines. Complete information is available at NTC’s website.

Registration Day for accepted students

Students who have been accepted into Northwest Technical College for classes beginning this fall are invited to a June 10 and registration event on campus. Students who participate in the registration event must have taken the Accuplacer test or have received a waiver. Students can register during one of two time periods, from 9 a.m.-noon or from 1-4 p.m. The session will include a brief introduction to the college and its services, followed by individual assistance with registration for fall classes. Representatives from Financial Aid and Student Records will be available to answer any questions.

Northwest Technical College, located in northern Minnesota’s lake district, is an open, inviting technological learning organization.
