Educators and leaders come together to increase American Indian student success

TEMPE, Ariz., June 1, 2016 – Arizona State University and The College Board will host the annual Native American Student Advocacy Institute (NASAI) National Conference ASU’s Tempe Campus on June 6-7.

The conference brings together education professionals from throughout the nation, forming new connections, collaborating, and sharing strategies and best practices to ensure American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian students achieve academic excellence.

ASU President Michael Crow will address attendees, which include K-12 and college educators, community leaders, and tribal leaders to discuss how to best support students to succeed academically.

The conference will include influential speakers such as Honorable Diane Humetewa, United States District Judge of Arizona; Shana Brown, Teacher, Author, Curriculum Designer; Dr. Amanda R. Tachine with the ASU Center for Indian Education.

“This is a wonderful group of speakers, with an opportunity for us to learn from them and our colleagues who are presenting. ASU is honored to host this important convening of thought leaders from across Indian Country to address the important issues facing Indigenous students,” said Bryan Brayboy, Special Advisor to the President on American Indian Initiatives at ASU.

The conference will discuss a variety of topics including financial aid, teaching strategies and information on facilitating the transition to a four-year university.

NASAI is sponsored by the College Board, a national non-profit organization devoted to connecting students to college success and opportunity. Each year, the College Board helps more than seven million students prepare for a successful transition to college through programs and services in college readiness and college success.
