Record number of inspectors hired to curb invasive species

BEMIDJI—With aquatic invasive species having infested 5 percent of Minnesota waters, the Department of Natural Resources is sending out more watercraft inspectors than ever to prevent further spreading.

For the 2016 summer season, the DNR will set a record with more than 800 watercraft inspectors at access points to educate boaters and check for species such as zebra mussels. According to a press release from the DNR, the inspectors are trained by the department and employed by counties.
