Bee attack victim was stung over 1,000 times

A 23-year-old Kinder man died Thursday after being attacked by bees as he and his stepsister hiked in Usery Mountain Park in Mesa, Ariz., authorities said.

Alex Van Bestler, a member of the Coushatta Tribe, was stung more than 1,000 times, officials said.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Bestler and his stepsister were attacked by a large swarm of bees without warning at about 9 a.m. Officials said his stepsister made it safely to a nearby restroom, but Bestler was overwhelmed by the swarm before he could find shelter.
