Thefts knock stream-monitoring gauges offline in Skagit County, elsewhere

Five stream gauges monitored by the U.S. Geological Survey, including two in Skagit County, were targets of recent thefts that will likely lead to thousands of dollars in replacement costs and a loss of data, the agency said Tuesday.

The theft of the equipment knocked gauges offline on the Cascade River near Marblemount at 9:45 a.m. Saturday and on the Sauk River south of Rockport at 8 p.m. Sunday.
