Arts Grants Awarded in Beltrami County

Region 2 Arts Council (R2AC) awarded $99,112 to arts organizations, schools, and non-profits in Beltrami County this year.

The Bemidji Community Theater was awarded a $6,000 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding a theater performance of the musical “Hello Dolly.”

The English Department of Bemidji State University was awarded a $6,000 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding the 2016 Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference, featuring keynote speaker Joy Harjo.

The Paul Bunyan Playhouse was awarded a $6,000 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding a summer theater production of “Nine to Five” at the Historic Chief Theater in Bemidji

The Bemidji Symphony Orchestra was awarded a $6,000 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding an orchestral concert featuring the electronic music of the “MIDIots.”

The Watermark Art Center was awarded a $6,000 to assist in funding the 13th annual “It’s Only Clay” national juried ceramics competition and exhibit.

The Music Department of Bemidji State University was awarded a $6,000 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding “Bravo! North,” a summer seminar for advanced strings and piano students.

The Bemidji MusiCamp was awarded a $6,000 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding a summer music camp for school-aged children on the BSU campus.

Northern Artist Association was awarded a $4,000 Community Arts Support Grant to provide general operating support.

The Bemidji Wood Carvers Club was awarded a $4,717 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding a workshop with nationally celebrated woodcarver, Janet Cordell and a exhibition of local woodcarving.

The Bemidji Participatory Arts Collective was awarded a $3,009 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding various participatory arts activities in conjunction with a community mural painted by local artist Mary Therese.

Bemidji Chorale was awarded a $3,000 Community Arts Support Grant to provide general operating support.

The Headwaters School of Music and the Arts was awarded a $2,980 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding the “String Fling Fiddle Camp,” featuring traditional Swedish fiddle music.

The Music Department of Bemidji State University was awarded a $2,748 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding an artist residency with Ana Maria Otamendi and Elena Lacheva, who will perform recitals, present a master class, visit local schools, and provide private coaching to local music students.

The Music Department of Bemidji State University was awarded a $2,396 Arts Project Grant to assist in funding a Woodwind Day, featuring guest performers, teachers, and presenters to benefit woodwind students and musicians in the Bemidji area.

The Music Department of Bemidji State University was awarded a $2,331 Arts Project Grant to assist in funding “Beyond Race: The Universality of Singing African-American Art Songs & Spirituals,” a concert and presentation featuring Dr. Caroline Helton, Dr. Emery Stephens, and Dr. Kate Bae.

The Red Lake Band of Ojibwe was awarded a $2,225 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in funding the annual “Honoring Our Ancestors” Arts Festival featuring contemporary and traditional Native American artists in Red Lake.

The Bemidji Middle School was awarded a $2,200 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant for Schools to assist in funding artist in residence, William Durbin, to work with 6th graders on writing historical fiction.

The Watermark Art Center was awarded a $1,000 Quick Grant to the to assist in funding keynote speaker Kate Anderson, a nationally recognized fiber artist, painter, gallery owner and speaker, as part of the “Pine to Prairie Fiber Arts Trail”

The Schoolcraft Learning Community was awarded a $920 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant for Schools to assist in funding their Fall & Spring Concerts featuring choirs, orchestra, and the French language program.

The Northern Artist Association was awarded a $746 Quick Grant to assist in funding a workshop featuring painting on porcelain with Nancy Eagleson.

The Music Department of Bemidji State University was awarded a $725 Quick Grant to assist in bringing guest violinist Dr. Conor O'Brien to Bemidji to perform a recital with Dr. Eric Olson (of BSU) and offer a violin master class for local strings students and other string musicians throughout the community.

The Headwaters School of Music & the Arts was awarded a $340 Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant to assist in providing an accompanist for the First City Singers Senior Choir.
