BEMIDJI -- The fryers hissed more than the snakes.
People showed up by the hundreds Wednesday evening to the Paul Bunyan Communications Cooperative Celebration, where a literal ton of fried walleye was served to families who flocked under tents to keep their food out of the rain, and then wandered among child-luring attractions that included face painting and snake holding.
“I don’t mind snakes,” one woman said as she passed a big one with brown and yellow stripes. “But I don’t like them very much.”
