HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATIONS:Hoping to help others: TrekNorth graduate ready for the next challenge

BEMIDJI -- Something about Chicago did not sit right with Katelin Frey.

She went there a couple years ago on a school trip and at first admired the place from a distance, stone and glass buildings reaching skyward with a shimmer. “On the outside it looks like a rich, flourishing city,” she said. But then she got closer, “saw violence, racism and poverty,” she said.

Frey doesn’t know yet what she’s going to do when she’s older. It could very well involve social justice, she said, because passing through Chicago’s roughest neighborhoods changed the way she thinks about things.
