Red Lake Nation 2016 Tribal Election Results Certified - P2

Members of the Red Lake Nation went to the polls on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, for the purpose of electing four District Representatives for a four year term, one each from the Ponemah, Redby, Red Lake and Little Rock Districts.

The incumbents are Randy Kingbird, Ponemah District Representative; Allen Pemberton, Redby District Representative; Robert "Bob" Smith, Red Lake District Representative; and Richard Barrett, Sr ., Little Rock District Representative.

If a candidate receives 50 percent of the vote plus one, they are the declared winner. If no one attains the threshold in any or all seats, a runoff election will be set by the Red Lake Tribal Council. Nobody received a majority so there shall be a runoff in each district as follows: Ponemah District: Daniel C. Johnson and Glenda J. Martin; Redby District: Allen D. Pemberton (Incumbent) and Darrell "Ragg" Johnson; Red Lake District: Robert "Bob" Smith (Incumbent) and Donald L. Good, Sr .; Little Rock District: Richard W. Barrett, Sr. (Incumbent) and William F. "Billy" Greene.

The General Election Board met at 10:00 a.m. this morning to review the election and then they certified it.

Pursuant to Chapter 1807.06 of the Election Code, only a candidate, and no other person, may challenge the correctness of the certified results of an election in which that candidate ran for elected office and then only for the office that he or she sought. Challenges must be filed in writing under oath with the General Election Board within five calendar days following the certification of the election. The challenge must provide the necessary information required by the Election Code and be accompanied by a cash bond of five hundred dollars ($500.00).

The Red Lake Tribal Council, the governing body of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, shall set a runoff election at their next Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 14, 2016.
