Election Day is today for 19 candidates running for 4 District Representative spots

RED LAKE - Nineteen candidates will square off for 4 District Representative seats on the Red Lake Tribal Council today.

In Red Lake, incumbent Robert "Bob" Smith will face David F. Desjarlait, Nolan Desjarlait, Donald L. Good, Sr., Lee Lussier, Jr., Greg Stately and James "Jim" White.

Smith was elected in a special election after the passing of former Red Lake Representative Donald "Dude" May two years ago.

Incumbent Randall "Jiggs" Kingbird will face Daniel C. Johnson and Glenda J. Martin for the Ponemah Representative Seat. Kingbird had unseated Representative Martin 4 years ago.

In the Redby District, incumbent Allen D. Pemberton will face Darrell "Ragg" Johnson, Kevin Lee Jones, Jr., David "Dave" Loud, Maureen Thunder-Lyons and Rodney Prentice Jr.

Incumbent Richard W. Barrett, Sr. will face William F. "Billy" Green and Harlow Spears for the Little Rock Representative Seat. Green, a former Little Rock Representative, did not run for re-election two years ago when his seat was up.

To win the seat, a candidate who receives more than 50% of the vote will be declared the winner. If no candidate receives more than 50% in any and all races, a run-off election will be scheduled 60 days after all certifications, challenges or recounts.

Winners of the run-off election(s) will take office more than likely at the first regular Tribal Council Meeting in September of this year.

Polls open at 8 AM - 8 PM.
