LINCOLN — The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation will remain officially dry after a vote to allow alcohol sales was called off at the last minute.
Residents of the reservation, in southern South Dakota bordering Nebraska, were poised to vote today. But the Oglala Sioux Tribal Council, in the face of protesters on horseback, voted 9-4 late Monday afternoon to halt the election.
