Red Lake Nation Lacrosse May and June Calendar Released

RED LAKE - The Red Lake Nation Lacrosse May and June Calendar has been released. There will be Skills and Drills Nights on Monday and Tuesday nights from 6:00 to 7:30 pm for Grades K to 12 boys and girls at Red Lake Hospital Field and Ponemah Softball Field. The secondary location in case of weather will be held at the Red Lake Middle School Gym and Ponemah School Gym. The coaches for Red Lake are Anna Swan Sherwood and Kelly Iceman. The coaches for Ponemah are Scott Perkins and Kevin Patterson. The Director of Red Lake Nation Lacrosse is Dan Ninham. Chris Jourdain also works with the program. Parent drop off and pick up is required and a snack and refreshment will be provided. Special guest instructor nights will also feature:

Jeremy Red Eagle on May 17 at Red Lake and May 18 at Ponemah. Jeremy Red Eagle is Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate and Assiniboine. Involved with the International Traditional Games Society, he is also a coach for Susbeca Lacrosse based in Enemy Swim, South Dakota.

Freeman Bucktooth and Dave Bray on May 23 at Red Lake and May 24 at Ponemah. Freeman Bucktooth is Onondaga and the head coach of the Iroquois Nationals and Dave Bray is Seneca and a former All American and National Champion player at Cornell University.

TBA on May 30 at Red Lake and May 31 at Ponemah. A lacrosse coach or player will be announced soon that will be featured at these locations.

Cam Bomberry on June 20 and 21 at Red Lake and June 22 and 23 at Ponemah. Cam Bomberry is Mohawk and a former All American at Nazareth College, professional player and Iroquois Nationals player.

The Monday and Tuesday participants have the opportunity to be put on teams to compete in the 3 vs. 3 League at Bemidji State University Football Field and Soccer Complex on May and June Wednesday and Thursday nights from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.

The sponsors of the Red Lake Nation Lacrosse Program are Oshkiimaajitahdah and Red Lake School District.

The Creator's Game Gathering will be held on Saturday, May 21 at the Red Lake Hospital Field. An Opening Ceremony begins at 12:45 pm and other events include a youth game between the Red Lake and Ponemah club teams and team members will be mixed from each club. A men wooden stick game and women double ball game will also be held and players can just show up to play. Bring your lawn chairs. A wooden stick and leather ball making workshop will be directed by Red Lake Nation Band Member Ben Spears from 10 am to 5 pm. There is no cost for Red Lake Nation Band Members and for others the cost is $110 to make your own wooden stick and leather ball. Pre-registration required for the workshop by noon on May 20.
