Drake's bill advances
ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota House unanimously backed a bill Wednesday to increase punishment for drunken drivers charged with a vehicular homicide that occurs within 10 years of another drunken driving offense.
The crime would be increased to 15 years in prison from the current 10 years.
The bill is named after Drake Bigler, who at 5 months of age died in a traffic accident when his family was headed to a Starbuck, Minn., cabin in 2012. His mother Heather escaped serious injury, but his father Brad suffered major injuries, as did family member Sharon Schutler.
