AFP-Minnesota Applauds House for Blocking Devastating Impacts of Clean Power Plan

CPP would have traumatic impacts on jobs and economy in Minnesota

ST. PAUL, MN - Americans for Prosperity - Minnesota applauds the Minnesota House for its vote this week to prevent state agencies from spending money to develop a state plan for implementing President Obama's Clean Power Plan (CPP). The CPP would threaten Minnesota's access to affordable, reliable energy, potentially impacting 300,000+ jobs at a time when Minnesota is lagging the nation in job creation.

AFP-MN State Director Jason Flohrs praised the House, saying "It's heartening to see legislators doing what's best for Minnesotans and their families. More lawmakers need to wake up and see the devastating impact this plan would have on the state. Not only will the President’s regulations kill jobs and send utility costs soaring, but they remain legally dubious. We hope that the Senate will follow the House's example and stop Minnesota from going down a road toward higher costs and fewer jobs."

As it stands now, the CPP regulations would impose billions of dollars in costs, but has not been approved by either federal or state lawmakers. However, Governor Dayton has said the state will continue working toward implementing it despite the costs and its legally dubious nature. Given the damage that President Obama’s carbon rule would have on Minnesota, state lawmakers should work to protect citizens from its impact.
