Delaware high school student dies after school assault
WILMINGTON, Del. — A 16-year-old student died Thursday after she was assaulted at a high school, Wilmington police said.
Detectives from the homicide and violent crimes unit were interviewing multiple students at Howard High School of Technolody who were considered persons of interest in the assault, according to a source close to the investigation. Two female students were taken to police headquarters for further questioning, police Chief Bobby Cummings said. Police said they do not believe anyone outside the school was involved.
"My heart bleeds for the family," said Mayor Dennis Williams at a press conference at the high school Thursday. "Things like this shouldn't happen."
