MNHS and the History Hound Welcome the 2016 Summer Travel Season

Start planning for summer vacation and weekend fun now with MNHS! From terrific family outings to masterful history tours, MNHS delivers more authentic, only-in-Minnesota destinations than you can shake a stick at.

New this summer is the “History Hound Passport to Summer Fun.” Kids age 14 and under who visit MNHS historic sites can collect special pawprint stamps in a passport. Once six or more stamps are collected, they will receive a free History Hound plush toy! Passports are available at any participating MNHS site.

Travelers can visit 26 MNHS historic sites and explore history found nowhere else from ancient American Indian carvings older than Stonehenge at Jeffers Petroglyphs to lumberjack history at the Forest History Center to baby animals at the Oliver Kelley Farm, there’s something for everyone.

Some of the new programs this year include:

• Neighborhood Secrets Walking Tour, various St. Paul neighborhoods: Glimpse five vibrant St. Paul neighborhoods along the Green Line, from Frogtown to Little Africa, led by a resident expert.

• Solstice at Minnesota’s Ancient Observatory, 2-Day Exploration, Jeffers Petroglyphs: Discover how American Indians marked the summer solstice using Minnesota’s first-known astronomical observatory.

• History Flirt, Minnesota History Center: A new happy hour series with pop-up activities, music, food samples and more for full-on fun! Delve into Indian-American culture on May 10 or the world of Saturday morning cartoons on June 7.

Plus, stop by the Minnesota History Center for two don’t-miss Smithsonian exhibits opening April 30: “Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation” and “What’s Up, Doc? The Animation Art of Chuck Jones.”
