White Earth Tribal Police play Circle of Life Academy students in basketball game

WHITE EARTH, MINN. – Around 120 community members gathered Monday evening (April 18) for the highly anticipated 2016 COPS vs. COLA Basketball Game at the Circle of Life Academy gymnasium in White Earth.

The White Earth Tribal Police Department faced off with the Circle of Life Academy boys basketball team in a game that was decided on a last-second basket in overtime.

After a spirited first half, the Warriors led the game 24 to 23. In the second half, a winded tribal police team relied on the assistance of some Lady Warrior basketball players that suited up and stepped in to help out. The tribal police team went ahead 45-43 towards the end of regulation play, but the Warrior team drove down the court to score with 8 seconds left, sending the game in to a 3-minute overtime.

After trading scoring opportunities, Community Service Officer Curtis Rogers scored with seconds left on the clock, giving the tribal police a 53-51 win over the Circle of Life Academy.

After the game, several COLA boys and girls were awarded basketball letters for their play during the season.

The event ended with a picnic-style meal for the players and all the community members in attendance.
