Energized for the future: Seki says solar project, other plans will change tribe for better

RED LAKE—A future of clean energy, more jobs, expanded services is ahead for a stronger Red Lake Nation, Tribal Chairman Darrell Seki, Sr. said Friday during the annual State of the Band address.

Speaking to a full crowd at Seven Clans Casino and to the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians as a whole, Seki outlined some of the the tribe's major projects and broad initiatives for 2016 and beyond.

Seki praised the nation's gaming industry while also addressing the necessity of branching out into other sectors economically.

"Our gaming provides our membership jobs, tribal government operations, funding for our elderly programs and tribal colleges," Seki said. "But we cannot depend on our gaming. We as a nation have to diversify. We need to create and develop our nation to be self-sufficient. By working together we can accomplish this task to make our nation stronger."
