Lawmakers: American Indian suicide needs action, not a consultant

BOX ELDER — State lawmakers scoffed at the idea of spending $250,000 to hire consultant to form a coalition to look at youth suicide on Montana's reservations, instead saying it's time to act and not just talk more about how to fix the problem.

Lesa Evers, tribal relations manager for the Department of Public Health and Human Services, told the State-Tribal Relations committee Wednesday that she and several others in the department had been visiting tribes to get input on how to use the money, which was allocated in House Bill 2 passed by the 2015 Legislature.
