Pioneer Editorial: Stop ... so we can go forward
To the drug dealers from out of town: Stop bringing your poison to our communities. In the past few weeks, there have been seven heroin overdose deaths, with more than a dozen non-fatal cases, in the north-central Minnesota region. There’s also been several more in the Fargo-Moorhead metro area.
Stop bringing death to our communities and reservations from the Twin Cities or Detroit or Chicago, as recent arrests have shown a pipeline of heroin, methamphetamine and other hard drugs from major U.S. cities to our region. Already in Minnesota this year, law enforcement officers have seized 18 pounds of heroin, representing 82,000 doses and more than $1 million of product, it was reported last week. That’s already higher than last year and is only a pound away from becoming the highest total in the past five years.
This is an epidemic, and it needs to stop.
