Candidates File for Red Lake Tribal Election

Election to be Held May 18, 2016

Nineteen candidates have filed for four district representative seats on the Red Lake Tribal Council. The deadline for filing was Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 4 p.m.

After passing a criminal background check, the candidates will be certified sometime in April. Then, according to the Tribal Secretary's Office, the election will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2016.

If a candidate receives 50% of the vote plus one, they are the declared winner. If no one attains this threshold in any or all seats, a run-off election will be scheduled sixty days after the conclusion of all certifications, challenges or recounts...probably in late July or early August.

Incumbent, Randall Kingbird, has filed for reelection as Ponemah District Representative, along with challengers Daniel C. Johnson, and Glenda J. Martin.

For Red Lake Representative, Incumbent Robert "Bob" Smith has filed for reelection. David F. Desjarlait, Nolan Desjarlait, Donald L. Good, Sr., Lee Lussier, Jr., Greg Stately, and James "Jim" White will challenge Smith.

Incumbent Redby District Representative, Allen D. Pemberton has filed for reelection, along with challengers Darrell "Ragg" Johnson, Kevin Lee Jones, Jr., David "Dave" Loud, Maureen Thunder Lyons, and Rodney Prentice, Jr.

For Little Rock Representative, current office holder Richard W. Barrett, Sr., is being challenged by William F. "Billy" Greene, and Harlow Spears.
