Bemidji man arrested with heroin in Itasca County makes first court appearance

GRAND RAPIDS—A Bemidji man facing felony charges after he and two others were arrested in possession of heroin earlier this week had his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Nicholas Virgil Blackbear, 28, of Bemidji; Joshua Morgan Hunter, 20, of Grand Rapids; and Dwayne Jones Jr., 30, of Detroit were arrested Monday after a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 169 in Itasca County after authorities received a tip that Jones and Blackbear were transporting heroin. The Itasca County Attorney's Office reported "about 130 grams of suspected heroin" was found in a backpack in the trunk of the vehicle.
